Functions and Qualities
Terms used in the Wrasse project are based on research into student writing and feedback from academics. They are grouped around three broad functions and three broad qualities of writing as follows:
- Functions refer to what a writer intends to ‘do’ in his/her writing and the kinds of meanings and understandings s/he intends the reader to gain.
- Qualities refers to a range of features of writing under the headings.
- General comments labelled 'O' refer to features of the writing not covered under functions or qualities.
- Other comments labelled ‘G’ refer to general or overall features of the writing.
